The reading
A silver mermaid turns within a curling wave, her smooth torso giving way to a scaled tail that bends beneath her.
Flowing hair joins the movement of the surrounding water. The meeting of human and aquatic forms suggests change as an integration of different capacities, rather than the loss of an earlier self.

The symbol
The tail returns toward the upper body instead of pointing away from it. Around that turn, hair and wave follow related curves, making the surrounding movement feel like a place to belong rather than a force that erases the figure.
The material
Sterling Silver forms the torso, individual scales, hair and surrounding wave, identified by Peter Stone as.925 silver. Smooth and patterned areas share one metal body, giving their differences a common substance instead of treating one form as more complete than the other.
